Time-Risk Tradeoff of Hazmat Routing Problem in Emergency Situation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Risk and cost are important factors in Hazmat routing problem. While the local authorities try to minimize risk, transport companies plan to reduce cost. In emergency situation, time is an important issue and should be minimized to carry vital substances of Hazmat. This is a serious concern when petrol and other fuels should be transported to the areas which are probably affected by heavy rain or snow. In this paper, a methodology, consisting tradeoff between time and risk, has been proposed to satisfy local authorities to reduce time and risk simultaneously. Mathematical model has been developed for analytical process of finding the best path in various priorities of risk and time and utilizing well-known methods of finding shortest path including Bellman-Ford, Breadth First Search and Dijkstra. Results show proposed methodology can be applied in Hazmat routing problem in emergency situation particularly in long-term trips while different alternatives or paths are available.

Application of Chaos Theory in Hazardous Material Transportation
Risk factors are generally defined and assigned to road networks, as constant measures in hazmat routing problems. In fact, they may be dynamic variables depending on traffic volume, weather and road condition, and drivers' behavior. In this research work, risk factors are defined as dynamic variables using the concept of chaos theory. The largest Lyapunov exponent is utilized to determine the ...
متن کاملComparison between Combined and Separate Approaches for Solving a Location-Routing Problem in Hazardous Materials Transportation
In the case of hazardous materials management, selected routes for carrying hazardous materials (i.e., hazmat) have significant effects on locating hazmat distribution centers. Since, risk and cost are usually considered as two main attributes to determine the best routes, optimized locations are sequentially outlined depending on selected routes. In the present paper, t...
متن کاملSolving a Multi-Objective Location-Routing Problem for Hazardous Waste Management Industrial
Industrial hazardous materials (hazmat) are byproduct of industrial production and include hazardous goods, such as flammable, toxic and corrosive materials that pose a risk to the environment.Hazardous waste management includes collection, transportation, treatment, recycling and disposal of industrial hazardous material in an organized manner. With the increasing industrialization of countrie...
متن کاملOptimization of Vehicle Routing and Scheduling Problem with Time Window Constraints in Hazardous Material Transportation
Unlike widely available literatures in hazardous material (HAZMAT) transportation that basically aim at finding non dominated paths for a given origin-destination pair, our main focus in this study is on vehicle routing problem with time window (VRPTW) aspect of HAZMAT transportation problem that has received very less attention in literatures. We present a new multi-objective optimization mode...
متن کاملRouting Hazardous Materials on Time-Dependent Networks using Conditional Value-at-Risk
We propose a new method for mitigating risk in routing hazardous materials (hazmat), based on the conditional value-at-risk (CVaR) measure on time-dependent vehicular networks. The CVaR models are shown to be flexible and suitable for hazmat transportation that can be solved efficiently. This paper extends the previous research by considering CVaR for hazmat transportation in the case where acc...
